A couple of years ago I made a black denim jacket for myself and have been meaning to refine the pattern ever since. Over Christmas I finally revisited it, adjusted the fit and details, and ended up with a clean, 1950s Type II–style denim jacket that I’ve been wearing daily for the past two months.
The cut is boxy and functional, with enough room for a shirt or hoodie underneath. If you prefer a neater, slightly cropped fit, sizing down works well too.
It’s made from 13.5oz true-black selvedge denim from Collect Mills in Japan (RS66). The fabric has a firm, structured feel at first but softens and moulds to the body with wear while holding its deep black colour.
Including pleated button front, pointed collar, adjustable cuffs and waistband, and two large chest pockets. (They'll have a solid silver MONO WORKS branded button on chest too)
Each jacket is cut and sewn by me using my full workshop setup and all the machines.
I’ll be making three or four jackets in March.
